With the recent earth quakes in Christchurch it is important that Chimney Removal or Chimney Demolition of any damaged chimneys takes place immediately so that further damage to the surrounding building, or harm to residents, is reduced.

You can get " reasonable permanent" roof repairs before an EQC assessor has visited to a maximum value of $2000 including roof repairs such as replacement of tiles, rebedding and capping tiles, and refastening of iron sheets. Please note that EQC (as at July 2011) are tightening up on the extent of these repairs. Please feel free to phone C4 Contracting Services so that we can advise on your situation.

Other elements of the Emergency Repair work include work that provides weather tightness, health and safety, and security.

Removal Down To Ceiling:

Our charges start at $395 + gst for a typical single story brick chimney removal. The final cost can depend on the variables below, but in most cases the total cost of the completed work has is less than $1000.

1. Type of Chimney: If the chimney is reinforced concrete or stone a Masonary Saw is required. Brick chimneys are generally more easiliy removed, and can be this can be carried out manually.

2. Debris Disposal: Some clients prefer to keep the bricks for garden edgeing etc, but there is no problem in removing these from the property. All other debris we will load on our truck and dispose of.

3. The Type of Roofing: The type of material required to repair the damage/hole and the labour involved in rectifying the damage. There are a variety of roof coverings and some are detailed below.

Concrete Tile ... Galvanised Corrugated Iron ... Tray Iron ... Metal Tiles ... Asphalt and Ceder Tiles ... Zincalum and Colour Steel

4. Additionally, flashings may need to be designed and manufactured to ensure weather tightness on some specialised jobs.

5. Access: Occasionally a Cherry Picker or Scaffold needs to be used to access the chimney or roof.

6. Travel: Travel to the job within the Christchurch Area is included in the base charge.

Full Chimney Removal:

In some cases the clients need or require their chimney to be completely removed down to the floor. The cost of this depends on a number of things, single or double story; interior, exterior location; gibbing of walls or replacement of exterior cladding; floor restoration and access for example. Each situation will differ and will require a visit and an on site estimate which we can supply at the time.

Roof Profiles:

Concrete Tile - There are a variety of concrete tile profiles available, but most are obtainable at present through demolition yards. If yours are painted we will also repaint the tiles fitted, to the colour of the roof. We will repair and fit battens, check the motar joins of the ridgeing in the immediate area and advise on any repair that need to be carried out.

Galvanised Corrigated Iron - Galvanised steel sheeting that has been painted. Sheets can be fitted to cover the damaged area, extending back to the most appropriate rafter line and fixed with TEK screws. After fitting new sheets we will paint with 2 coats of the required matched colour.

Tray Iron - Sheets will be fitted from the ridging to the edge to cover any damaged area and fixed with TEK screws. Generally this is painted and after fitting new sheets we will paint with 2 coats of the required matched colour, as well as treat any exposed areas of the old iron with Galv paint.
